New UNground-breaking UNinnovative UNoriginal Great App Idea!

If you read my previous post, then you know all about "TABS"

I've been working hard on TABS. It already does what it's supposed to but it is lacking in the looks department. If it were in the dating pool it would be like a 5 outta 10. If we were rating on a binary scale, I'd give it a 1, which is a go. A 'go' is enough for me to put in some work. And so, I'm polishing TABS's looks and user interface.

TABS doesn't do anything ground-breaking or innovative, and it's definitely not original (besides the name, I hope). Many programs like itself already exist.

So what's the deal? If it doesn't innovate then why is this simple time tracking program such a great idea to work on?

  1. I personally use the program (can customize as I want)
  2. It's free (open source)
  3. You will be able to freely use it on a website in the future (and I will finally become even more popular than I was in 7th grade)

NUMBER 4. Lastly and most importantly, it's difficult to innovate without knowing the current state of what it is you're trying to improve. Innovating is introducing a new method or idea. Methods and ideas should be proven to work and make sense. It is not until we make sense of how a solution works that we can start innovating. Since this program is already working for me, and I understand its implementation (makes sense to me), I can begin to optimize it, streamline it, make it more efficient, turn it into something innovative.

I mean, don't get me wrong. If you're a genius, then you can skip all of the above and create something innovative in one swift motion.
